Make words not hard
At SpiderOak our core mission is to make our digital lives safe and secure, but what good is a quadruple-locked solid oak door if it’s just too difficult to use in your daily life? Not particularly good at all. Enter the UX team — making all our software products as easy to use as they are secure.
The Technical UX Writer is primarily responsible for the creation and maintenance of our software development platform documentation, with a broad goal of making our platform easy to use for software developers. Typical duties include writing guides for developing software on the SpiderOak development platforms, how-to guides and end-user documentation for additional consumer facing SpiderOak apps, UX, white papers, and other materials.
Who We Need
A creative Technical/User Experience Writer, who is a problem-solver, and has at least 2 years of relevant work experience (or a combo of education and experience). You will have experience working in an Agile/Scrum project management system and the ability to work independently at our all-remote company
A quick learner who can become familiar with our software development platform and write clear and concise documentation on how to build software using the SO platform
An information architecture wizard who can organize complex platform documentation into an easy-to-consume format.
A self-motivated person with the unique ability to collaborate and get work done in a fully remote/virtual environment.
What You'll Do
Work with Developers and Design to understand our Development Platform as well as additional software products
Create documentation for our platform and other products – distilling complex technical ideas into concise and digestible documents
Organize, structure, and label our platform documentation in a logical, effective, and sustainable way.
Determine the best format for consumption of the documentation while ensuring it is searchable and easy to read. (You will be working closely with our UI/UX Designer to accomplish this)
Under general direction, write various copy of a professional, technical nature, about our platform.
What To Expect
This role is created for an Independent Contractor who will report to our Product Design Lead. You’ll be performing your work on a ‘per project’ basis and to be successful in this role, you will need to heavily familiarize yourself with our platform, right away. You will be doing deep dives with our technical leads from various teams and be having a lot of conversations about the types of customers who want to buy our software.
You will write… a lot!
You will work with the Design to build and launch documentation (experience with creating documentation websites for consumption is a plus)
Any experience in the Space, Cybersecurity, or Satcom sector would be a plus, but it is also not a dealbreaker.
